About the Moutia: Moutia was brought to Seychelles by the enslaved Africans who arrived with the French settlers in the early eighteenth century. They used to practice this dance at night in the forest, performed around bonfires, at a distance from where their masters lived. Moutia was a psychological comfort against hardship and poverty. It is listed on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
